Editorial policy
How we research, fact-check, and update every guide on this site.
Sources we rely on
- Companies' own published terms, app store listings, and disclosures
- Federal regulators, including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission
- State financial regulators
- Nonprofit organizations such as the National Foundation for Credit Counseling
Our process
- Research. A writer gathers primary-source facts and records where each came from.
- Fact-check. A second editor checks every number, fee, and claim against the source.
- Plain-language review. We rewrite jargon and show costs as both dollars and APR.
- Dating. Each page shows when it was last reviewed.
- Ongoing review. Guides about specific apps are reviewed at least quarterly and whenever we learn terms have changed.
Independence
Commercial relationships never determine what we say about a product. Lenders and partners do not review or approve our content before publication.

Not financial advice
Our content is educational. It isn't individual financial, legal, or tax advice. For advice about your situation, speak with a qualified professional or a nonprofit credit counselor.
